- Description
- This porcelain bottle was manufactured in Japan, but the decoration in Kakiemon style was later added in Delft. In Japan, Dutch merchants could buy porcelain with small defects at a low price and resell it at a profit to manufacturers in Delft. In Delft, the objects were decorated with motifs based on – for instance – the Japanese Kakiemon style and sold on the Dutch market. These imitations were a lot cheaper than genuine Kakiemon porcelain.
