- Description
- Van Gogh had a great predilection for the bright colours and compositional clarity of Japanese woodcuts. This painting of a bridge in the rain was based on a print by the celebrated artist Hiroshige, though Vincent intensified the colours, and added a border with random eastern characters which he copied from various prints .
