- In 1871 richtte Betsy Perk de Algemeen Nederlandsche Vrouwenvereeniging Arbeid Adelt op, bedoeld om het lot van onbemiddelde vrouwen uit de beschaafde stand te verbeteren door de verkoop van door hen zelf gemaakte handwerken. Een conflict leidde in 1872 tot de afscheiding van de Algemeen Nederlandsche Vrouwenvereeniging Tesselschade. In 1953 fuseerden beide organisaties om te blijven werken aan het doel Nederlandse vrouwen te helpen bij het streven naar zelfstandigheid. Ter gelegenheid van het 125-jarig bestaan van de vrouwenorganisaties is van 27 april t/m 27 mei 1996 een tentoonstelling te zien in Paleis Het Loo te Apeldoorn. De koninginnen Wilhelmina en Juliana steunden de doelstellingen van de verenigingen, die onder andere handwerkstukken leverden bij koninklijke plechtigheden als het huwelijk van Wilhelmina en dat van Juliana.
