- Description
- De centrale afbeelding op de tegel toont een stuk natuur met planten, bloemen, vogels of insecten, dat in Holland 'Chinese tuin' genoemd wordt. Dit stukje natuur is dan ook regelrecht op Chinese borden geïnspireerd, evenals het tuintje dat we terugvinden op vroege Nederlandse majolica borden en Haarlemse papkommen. Dit landschap stond zo dikwijls op de Chinese kraakborden omdat het iets verbeeldde van het taoïsme, de invloedrijkste stroming in de zestiende eeuw. De accolades die op de tegel het centrum omsluiten, zijn eveneens overgenomen van de Chinese kraakborden. Daar zijn ze de uiteinden van de kelkbladen die samen de hele lotusbloem en daarmee het hele bord vormen. De hoekmotieven werden vroeger 'teken van de Heilige Drievuldigheid' genoemd. Nu worden ze met 'driestip' aangeduid.
