- Asjantenoe Sangodare is een pseudoniem van Michaël Slory, wat hij alleen gebruikte voor deze gedichtenbundel, uitgegeven bij de communistische uitgeverij Pegasus. De gedichten staan naast elkaar in het Sranan en het Nederlands in de vertaling van de auteur, met een voorwoord van Theun de Vries. In zijn gedichten uit deze periode betuigt Slory zijn sympathie voor linkse vrijheidshelden als Fidel Castro. Het eerste gedicht is opgedragen aan Patrice Loemoemba, de bevrijder van Zaire. Later distantieert Slory zich van het communisme, maar blijft een maatschappelijk sterk geëngageerd dichter. In deze bundel ook het hoopvolle gedicht 'Orfeo negro', waarin Slory de kracht bezingt van de dichter die in staat is met zijn verzen de zon te doen opkomen. 'Ik zal zingen om de zon te laten opkomen' werd ook de titel van een latere bloemlezing uit zijn werk.
