The foreman of the Remonstrants wears a robe trimmed with fur, a splendid lace collar and a skull cap on his head. With a book in his hand he sits in a study. The design for this etching was probably made on the same day that Wtenbogaert posed for Rembrandt for the famous portrait commissioned by the wealthy Amsterdam merchant Abraham Recht.
