This poem was written on the occasion of the sudden death of the young nobleman Willem van Tets, who attended the Noorthey boarding school and to whom Boutens had taken a liking.
The publication numbered twelve copies bound in vellum with a golden title on the spine. The painter Jan Toorop, a friend of Boutens, colored the initials on each copy by hand. The book is considered to be the rarest in modern Dutch literature
