Wild woman
Circa 1475-1500 AD, wood, height: 22 cm, Dordrecht
This wooden image of a nude female holding a large knife in her hand is a simple piece of woodcarving. Such an image is called a "wild wijfie" or "wildenvrouwtje" (little wild woman).
We do not know anything of the meaning of this image. Possibly it has been part of a wooden chandelier. The "wild woman" dates from the last quarter of the fifteenth century and was found in Dordrecht.
