World’s Fair Osaka

Osaka (Japan) was the venue of the 1970 World’s Fair, an exhibition that has been held since 1851 and an opportunity for participating countries to show their developments in the fields of technology, economy and culture. The theme of the 1970 World’s Fair was ‘Progress and Harmony for Mankind’.

The Osaka team for the design of a Dutch pavilion included the former Prime Minister Jozef Cals, architect J.B. Bakema, filmmaker Jan Vrijman, film director Frans Weisz and designer Wim Crouwel. The latter, who worked at the time with Total Design, created the Dutch pavilion and became internationally famous for its design.

The logo of the Dutch Foundation World’s Fair Osaka 1970 was applied to stationery, leaflets and brochures, all of them designed by Total Design.
