- Description
- Doek met daarop de vorm gebatikt van een theemuts. Het grootste motief is de sawat. Sawat (grote vleugels met staart in het midden), is een motief dat de garuda representeert. Garuda is een half-vogel, half-mensachtig wezen. Volgens de Hindoe-Javaanse mythologie droeg Garuda Vishnu door de hemel. De Garuda is een oud koninklijk symbool (Heringa, 1996:171; McCabe Elliot, 1984:68; van Roojen, 1998:69-73). gezien deze traditionele Centraal-Javaanse motieven en de gebruikte kleuren (bruinrood, blauw en crème) is de lap vermoedelijk afkomstig uit Midden-Java, en dan Surakarta (Yogyakarta heeft de kleur wit i.p.v. crème in combinaties).
