- De Sperwer is een van de mooiste boeiers van de scheepsbouwer Eeltje Holtrop van der Zee (1823-1901). 'Eeltjebaas' wordt gezien als de meest bekwame boeierbouwer van zijn tijd. Naast functionaliteit streefde hij ook schoonheid na. Boeiers werden in de vorige eeuw al als plezierjacht gebruikt. Deze is gebouwd voor de heer A. Jurjens uit Amsterdam. Het was een snel schip, dat veel zeil kon voeren (ca. 100 m2). In 1892 won de Sperwer in Sneek de zilveren 'New York Society Cup'. De naam van het schip wordt verbeeld in de vergulde sperwer op het roer en is in de mastplank aangebracht. In 1926 werd het schip naar Engeland verkocht. De nieuwe eigenaar Merlin Minshall voer ermee door heel Europa naar de Zwarte Zee. Deze vier jaar durende tocht beschrijft hij in zijn boek 'De avonturier'. Hierin meldt Minshall dat hij een Engelse geheim agent is met de veelzeggende code 007. Zijn baas Ian Fleming heeft na de oorlog op basis van Minshall en zijn avonturen zijn beroemde James Bond figuur gecreerd. De boeier is echter geen onderwerp geweest van Flemings verhalen.
