This map of Maastricht was published at the end of the 17th century by the Amsterdam publisher Frederik de Wit (1630-1706). De Wit based this plan on a map by Joan Blaeu (1598-1673) published in the second volume of his Town Books of the Netherlands in 1649. De Wit, however, did alter the map to the current situation: the new expansion of the fortifications around the city are represented on the map.
