- Tegel, daterend uit de periode 1610-1650. Afgebeeld is een granaatappel met halve rozetten langs de randen. Granaatappels waren destijds gewilde vruchten, vol met bessen en symboliek. Het granaatappelmotief is van Oosterse oorsprong - het werd al lang voor onze jaartelling toegepast in de tempel van Salomo - en komt voornamelijk voor op zijden stoffen vanaf de 14de eeuw. Deze worden bijna steeds weergegeven met niet-naturalistische vijf- of zevenlobbige bladeren, zo ook op deze tegel. De oranjekleurige vrucht was naast de oranjeappels als decoratie ook geschikt om de verbondenheid met de prinsen van Oranje uit te drukken. Constantijn Huygens, gunsteling en secretaris van prins Frederik Hendrik, liet aan het Plein in Den Haag, op het perceel grond dat hij cadeau kreeg van zijn meester, een groot stadspaleis bouwen, waarin hij omstreeks 1635 tegels met oranje granaatappels, zoals deze, liet zetten. Deze polychrome tegels, die in Leidse archivalia al in 1612 werden genoemd, waren dus toen nog in trek bij de elite.
