- Description
- In januari 1849 ging de Durgerdammer visser Klaas Bording met zijn twee zonen bot kloppen op de dichtgevroren Zuiderzee. Onverwacht viel de dooi in. Het ijs brak af. De Bordings zaten op een ijsschots en konden niet terug naar de vaste wal. Pas na twee weken werden ze gevonden door vissers - slechts één zoon overleefde het avontuur. Hun belevenis werd groot nieuws en vormde één van de eerste eigentijdse gebeurtenissen die 19de-eeuwse kunstenaars vastlegden.
