- Raksasa's zijn demonen, ongeluksbrengers die de regen tegenhouden en in hun kwaadaardigheid godsdienstige ceremoniën verstoren. Kannibalen met tijgerkoppen die mensen verslinden. De beruchtste Raksasa's zijn de reus Kumbhakarna en zijn broer Warana, die in een slag 500 hemelingen kunnen grijpen of 100 vrouwen kunnen roven en die bij een maaltijd duizenden stuks vee verslinden. De Baliers plaatsen beelden van Raksasa's bijde ingang van tempels als wachters die boze invloeden moeten keren en weren uit de verblijfplaats van goden. Met knots en zwaard bewapend, met uitpuilende ogen en vervaarlijke slagtanden heeft men aan deze beelden een afschrikwekkend voorkomen gegeven dat nog versterkt wordt door het behaarde, met bloedvlekken besmeerde lijf. Dit beeld behoort tot een groep van 28 beelden (15-156 t/m 15-182b), gezamenlijk een pantheon van Balinese godheden vormend, dat getoond werd op de Nederlandse koloniale afdeling op de wereldtentoonstelling te Parijs in 1900. Speciaal voor deze tentoonstelling heeft C.M. Pleyte, conservator van 's Rijks Etnografisch Museum in Leiden, deze beelden op Bali laten vervaardigen. Met behulp van enkele priesters selecteerde hij de relevante beelden die vervolgens door Balinese houtsnijders werden nagemaakt.
