- Vanaf een lager niveau ziet men het puntdak van negen woningen. Bovenaan de trap liggen vuilniszakken. Deze woningen aan het Bastion liggen in het oudste stadsdeel van Goes. Oorspronkelijk stonden op deze plaats oude panden, maar door een stadsvernieuwing zijn deze gesloopt. De panden waren vanaf de jaren vijftig vervallen. Zij werden namelijk bewoond door niet draagkrachtige particulieren, die niet in staat waren tot verbetering over te gaan. Er werd in 1968 dan ook een plan aanvaard waarbij de oude panden werden gesloopt. Een parkeerterrein zou het vrijgekomen terrein opvullen. Net als in veel andere historische steden ging het gemeentebestuur nogal slordig om met de oudere panden. De ruimte in het centrum was beperkt en om toch doorgaande verbindingen en parkeerplaatsen te kunnen realiseren moesten oude panden verdwijnen. In 1974 werd een nieuwe koers ingeslagen en veel waardevols behouden blijven. De gemeente en de Monumentenstichting Goes slaagden erin complete straten te restaureren. Voor een deel van de noordkant van het centrum duurde de verpaupering echter te lang en werd sloop noodzakelijk. Een prijsvraag werd uitgeschreven om te bepalen welk ontwerp zou worden uitgevoerd. Het winnende plan werd ontworpen door architecten- en Ingenieursbureau Treffers en Polgár. Het resultaat waren eengezinswoningen die door de regionale woningbouwvereniging werden beheerd.
