- Halfweg is de hoofdplaats van de gemeente Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude in Noord-Holland. Het ligt aan de noordoever van de Ringvaart om de Haarlemmermeer. De gemeente had op het moment van deze foto (1990) 5145 inwoners. Al in de jaren zestig is deze gemeente onderwerp van discussie. De gemeente dient als bufferzone tussen de steden Haarlem en Amsterdam en moet er voor zorgen dat deze steden niet aan elkaar groeien. Het plan was het als recreatiegebied aan te wijzen. Men wilde het toen bebossen om zo een groene buffer te creeëren, met het Amsterdamse Bos in het achterhoofd en dezelfde architect. De boeren zagen dat met bebossing de agrarische funktie van het gebied verloren zou gaan. Vandaar leuzen zoals hier op de foto; geen bos maar gras. Het bebossingsplan is uiteindelijk maar deels doorgegaan. Het agrarische gebied is voor het grootste deel geen eigendom meer van de boeren, maar zij pachten het van de overheid.
