Gezicht op de polder Het Grootslag en de stad Enkhuizen

- Op 1 juli 1423 verleende Hertog Jan van Beieren de steden Enkhuizen en Broek en de vier delen van Westwoud een vergunning om dijken en wegen aan te leggen. De polder Het Grootslag ontstond. Deze werd een zelfstandig waterschap. Aanvankelijk waren afwateringssluisjes voldoende om het overtollige water af te voeren. Op den duur schoot deze natuurlijke lozing tekort. Het polderbestuur liet daarom in 1452 twee windwatermolens bouwen aan het water de Oude Gouw bij de Noorderdijk bij Enkhuizen. Ongeveer een eeuw later stonden er vier windwatermolens. Naast deze molens is het schilderij van belang om de talrijke taferelen die er op staan afgebeeld. Zo is een pick-nick te zien van bewoners van de stad, een bulloper bezoekt met zijn stier de koeien die gedekt moeten worden en er wordt gevist met rechthoekige totebellen. Opvallend is de vangst van goudplevieren met slagnetten.
