- Een geluidswal dient om overmatig lawaai van het verkeer tegen te houden. Zo'n wal kan een dam zijn, een dijk of een bosopstand. Opvallend zijn de eigenschappen van een bos als geluidswal. Een zachte rulle bosbodem absorbeert vooral de middenfrequente geluiden (100 tot 1000 Hz), terwijl de boomstammen vooral de hogere tonen tegenhouden (boven 1000 Hz). De geluidsmuren op de foto, aan de Gooiseweg, A1 in Amsterdam zijn inmiddels verdwenen. Deze natuurvriendelijke geluidsmuren bestonden uit gevlochten takken. En de bedoeling was dat ze zouden begroeien. Waarschijnlijk heeft dit idee niet naar verwachting gepresteerd want deze muren zijn inmiddels verdwenen.
