- Reliëf 0.12 van de 160 basreliëfs van de (nog steeds) verborgen voet van de Borobudur die de Karmavibhanga illustreren. Gefotografeerd door Kassian Cephas in 1890-1891. — Het hoofdthema van de reliëfs draait om beloning en vergelding. Tegelijkertijd geven ze een beeld van het dagelijkse leven op Java in de achtste en negende eeuw. Naast conventionele afbeeldingen van hemel en hel zijn scènes uit het dagelijkse leven te zien van aardse ideologieën en verlangens, wereldse successen en drama's, van goede en slechte zaken die het gevolg zijn van daden uit het verleden en bepalen of de mens in de toekomst beloning of vergelding te wachten staat. — Een monnik en zijn leerlingen krijgen een uitgebreide maaltijd en geschenken van een weldoener die samen met zijn twee vrouwen en dienaren is gekomen. De versiering van het gebouw waar de monnik zit, duidt op een feestelijke gelegenheid. Voor de monnik zijn schalen eten en andere geschenken neergezet. De bomen op de achtergrond verwijzen naar een landelijke omgeving. Apen, vogels en eekhoorns stralen een vredige en vriendelijke sfeer uit. — De beloning in de linkerscène geeft een overvloedig leven weer waarin de man omarmd wordt door twee vrouwen terwijl ze in de tuin zitten. De dienaar achter hen heeft waarschijnlijk een betelnoot container in zijn handen, een symbool van hoge stand. Drie dienaressen waarvan één een spiegel vasthoudt, naderen de groep. Een spiegel is het symbool voor een prettig uiterlijk en elegantie. Drie mannelijke bedienden houden luxe voorwerpen en een gesloten schaal vast. Hierin zit waarschijnlijk heerlijk geurend poeder of weldadige olieën.
