- Description
- Een Groningse herenboer droeg zo veel mogelijk kleding naar de laatste mode. Evenals in Friesland is er in Groningen eigenlijk nooit een echte streekdracht voor mannen geweest. Dit is ook het geval in veel andere streken. Er was wel standsverschil in de kleding. Deze boer draagt een mooie blauwe jas met een zwarte kraag en twee rijen knopen. Hij is, zoals veel mannen in die tijd, als een Napoleon geportretteerd met de linkerhand in de jas gestoken. Zijn knechten zullen ongetwijfeld rondgelopen hebben in de kleding die in heel Nederland door de arbeidende klasse gedragen werd. Zijn vrouw laat op het bijbehorende portret wel zien waar zij vandaan komt (inv. nummer PR 13654).
