- Description
- Houten beeld van een districtshoofd (wedana) in ammtscostuum, als lid van een inheemse rechtsbank. Dit beeld maakt deel uit van een groep van 11 figuren, voorstellend een zitting van een inheemse rechtsbank. Gezeten op een stoel. De armen zijn bij de schouders beweegbaar, de rechterarm tevens bij de elleboog. De benen zijn bij de heup en knieën beweegbaar. Het hoofd is enigszins beweegbaar. De rechtspraak in Nederlands-Indië werd onderscheiden in inheemse rechtspraak en gouvernementsrechtspraak. De inheemse rechtspraak werd door het koloniale gezag gehandhaafd, deels uit politieke overwegingen, deels omdat het gouvernement niet over de benodigde gelden en mankracht beschikte.
