Zuiderzeemuseum

The Zuiderzee Museum focuses on the culture of the former Zuiderzee region and the present and future IJsselmeer area. It particularly highlights themes such as water, crafts and communities. In the Outdoor Museum you will find authentic premises from villages from the former Zuiderzee. Here young and old are put in touch with the Zuiderzee culture. Visitors can make a rope, for example, visit inhabitants of Urk or join a 1920s household for a meal. In the Indoor Museum visitors will become acquainted with the art, culture and heritage of the Zuiderzee from the time before and after it was closed off. There is also a ships' hall full of historic boats.

What is characteristic of the Zuiderzee Museum is that it links its cultural-historical collection with contemporary art and design in an attractive and surprising manner. In 2013 and 2014 visitors of the assessment site Zoover proclaimed the Zuiderzee Museum best museum of the Netherlands. In addition it was voted the #1 fun outing of North Holland by ANWB members (Royal Dutch Touring Club).
