Stadsarchief Rotterdam

The Stadsarchief Rotterdam (Rotterdam Municipal Archives) provides historical information about the city of Rotterdam and its environs through its archives (municipal and private) and collections (library and atlas). Except for the city of Rotterdam, the Municipal Archives performs these tasks for seven surrounding municipalities: Capelle aan den IJssel, Albrandswaard, Berkel and Rodenrijs, Bergschenhoek, Bleiswijk, Ridderkerk and Barendrecht. Core tasks are acquisition, preservation and access of historical information.

Because of its mission, the Rotterdam Municipal Archives has an active conservation policy. The Archives has its own fully-equipped restoration workshop for paper, a studio for photography, microfilming, scanning, sound and moving images, as well as a primary care section for the screening and packaging of archives and collections. The Rotterdam Municipal Archives has employees who are experts in the conservation and restoration of paper, photographic material and magnetic tapes (moving images and sound).
