Maastricht earthenware decorations, 1836-1969
A collection of the Sociaal Historisch Centrum Limburg
Maastricht earthenware enjoys the interest of an increasing number of people, amongst them researchers and collectors. The fine decorations on vases, plates, dishes and other pieces of crockery are mainly what makes them so attractive.
The collection in The Memory contains the almost 18.000 decors (designs for decorations), that are part of the historical corporate archives of the present firm Sphinx Sanitair BV. The designs, used between c. 1850 and 1969, document an important aspect of the earthenware production of one of the earliest large-scale industries in the Netherlands.
