Maastricht earthenware decorations, 1836-1969 > Stencils

Already before the First World War decorating with the help of stencils had come into use. First the design was cut out of metal. This metal stencil was put over the object and the colour was sprayed or painted on. Stencil designs were usually applied over the glaze.

In the 1920's, stencil designs were very popular. Especially Société Céramique earned itself a reputation for them. A large number of fine stencil designs is included in the collection.
