Collection of the Natural Sciences Commission for the Dutch East Indies > About the collection
The results of the Natural Sciences Commission’s expeditions to the Dutch East Indies were published between 1839 and 1847 in three parts divided into several volumes called ‘Transactions of the natural history of the Netherlands’ overseas possessions’.
The three parts cover topics including zoology, botany and geography and ethnography and contain numerous reports in words and pictures on observations of indigenous plants and animals, anthropological research and geological findings. This Memory of the Netherlands collection shows 259 prints from the Transactions made by various renowned illustrators and gives a colorful overview of the efforts of the Commission.
