The Netherlands National News Agency (ANP) – Photo archives, 1963-1968
A collection of the ANP Foundation
The Rolling Stones and the Beatles come to the Netherlands. Yoko Ono and John Lennon hold a ‘bed-in’ at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel. Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands marries Claus von Amsberg. People protest in favor of gay rights. The first European Cup is played and Anton Geesink carries the flag at the Olympic Games. These are just a few examples of what may be found in the extensive photographic archives of the Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau – ANP (Netherlands National News Agency).
The Memory made it possible to digitize part of these analog archives, specifically the items pertaining to the period from March 1963 through April 1969.
The collection includes over 87,500 images and gives a good impression of what the ANP issued as news. It presents the public with an accurate overview of the information made available to the Netherlands at the time. The entire analog archives cover the 20th century and include, among other items, photographs taken by ANP photographers for the daily newspapers.
