- De belangstelling voor de 19de-eeuwse schilderkunst is in de laatste decennia zeer sterk gegroeid. Het werk van schilders uit deze periode brengt tegenwoordig flinke bedragen op. Aan de belangstelling voor Springer heeft het Zuiderzeemuseum zeker bijgedragen. In 1971 is van zijn werk een expositie gehouden met de titel Romantiek der Zuiderzeesteden. Enkele malen is over hem gepubliceerd in het tijdschrift van de Vereniging Vrienden. Tenslotte telt de collectie van het museum een groot aantal tekeningen van deze kunstenaar. Het betreft straatgezichten van Enkhuizen, Hoorn, Kampen, Elburg en Harderwijk en tevens een schetsboek. Dit schilderij van de Waag en de Kaasmarkt in Enkhuizen blinkt uit in de deelcollectie. Ooit is geconstateerd dat het de schilder niet aan pathos heeft ontbroken. Naast de rijkdom aan kleur, is dar voor velen één van de aantrekkelijke kanten van zijn werk. Vertaalt men deze stelling naar dit schilderij en vergelijkt men het met de feitelijke situatie dan blijkt wat ermee bedoeld wordt. Het gebouw van de Waag is veel hoger weergegeven dan het in werkelijkheid is. Op het schilderij heeft Springer het gebouw ook nog eens voorzien van een schoorsteen. In werkelijkheid was die er wel, maar hij was niet zichtbaar vanuit het perspectief van de schilder. Belangwekkend is het opschrift van de Waag. Kennelijk waren er de ''Stadsbouwkundige Teekenschool'' en het ''Bureau van Politie'' gevestigd. Het schilderij heeft nog een aardige verrassing. Aan de bovenzijde bevindt zich een naar achteren gevouwen stukje van het doek met een door Springer geschreven en gesigneerd getuigschrift van echtheid. Dit stukje is met twee ''c.s.'' gemonogrammeerde lakzegels aan het spieraam geplakt.
