RYAM
Many people feel nostalgic about the Ryam school diaries of the 1970s and 1980s, which featured photographs of pop stars. Some of the models from the 1970s were designed by the graphic designer Jurriaan Schrofer.
Schrofer was interested in typography and created many of the typefaces he used for his designs on his own. In his work, he made words into illustrations. He created a specific kind of order in his work by using a typographic screen, geometrical shapes and different colors.
Many of the designs look like abstract mosaics. They are made up of characters he devised himself in order to convey a message. The words Ryam Agenda recur a number of times on the school diary that is on view here.
