Een zeer verdrietig werk (A most distressing job)
Willem de Mérode (1887-1939)
It appears from his correspondence with the Protestant poet Willem de Mérode that the writer/translator J.A. Rispens started writing poetry at an early date, though his first collection of poetry did not appear until 1939. Willem de Mérode (Willem Eduard Keuning’s pen name) comments on his work and encourages him. I write quite a bit nowadays, I find writing verses a most distressing job. But what can you do if you are driven to it?).
