50 million Indonesians are silenced. Only the Communist Party defends their rights. Vote for Louis de Visser.
Election poster made in 1929 by Henri Pieck and commissioned by the Communist Party of Holland (CPH). Because of an internal ideological conflict this party had two lists for the 1929 elections. The list of Louis de Visser as well as the list of David Wijnkoop obtained a seat. The CPH (became CPN) was the only political party during the interwar period that responded to Indonesia’s fight for independence.
In addition to being a visual artist, Henri Pieck (1895-1972), the twin brother of Anton, was also a communist, spy and was active in the Resistance. His graphic work varies from very socially engaged to advertising work and can be found in the collection of the ReclameArsenaal. A major part of IISG’s Dutch poster collection comes from the assignment portfolio of political parties, with SDAP (Social Democratic Workers’ Party), PvdA (Labor Party) and CPN (Dutch Communist Party) in the lead.
