Portret van Dirk Raphaelsz. Camphuysen (1585-1627), predikant, schrijver, dichter

The Remonstrant pastor and poet Camphuysen was not too keen on portraits: ‘this lifeless thing/ but a shadow of its real self’ was part of a verse he wrote on portrait paintings. However, when his collection of Stichtelijke rijmen (Devotional verses) was published in 1652 it included this portrait of him. The portrait is framed by the symbols for Faith, Hope and Love.
