This view of the Jungfrau was made by the Swiss landscape painter Johann Ludwig Bleuler (1792-1850). He was the son of the most famous Swiss landscape painter at the time, Johann Heinrich Bleuler, who taught his son to paint. Many of his paintings were made in Switzerland but he also went on study trips to the Rhine Valley and the Netherlands.
He then settled in Schaffhaussen, where he started a publishing and printing company that published his work. The techniques he used made his prints very attractive: he colored his line and aquatint etchings with gouache, giving them a characteristic Bleuler look.
