- Description
- The name of the man on this photo is unknown. It is probably Ookawa, a technician. He was one of the Japanese naval officers who came to the Netherlands in 1862 to follow the construction of the steamship Kaiyo-maru, which was being built by order of the Japanese government. In the Netherlands, they took courses in navigation techniques and visited enterprises and institutions. He died during his stay in the Netherlands and was buried in Amsterdam in the presence of his countrymen.
