Rhodites rosae
G. van Iterson
On an international level, Professor Beijerinck of the Delft University of Technology is regarded as one of the fathers of microbiology. Originally Beijerinck was a botanist. One of the subjects that interested him was the strange phenomenon of plant galls. A gall is an abnormal growth caused by an animal, plant or fungus, and often caused by the well-known gall wasp. The chart on view here shows the harm caused to a plant by the gall wasp Rhodites rosae. The drawing was made by Henriëtte Beijerinck, the professor’s sister.
