- Een pentekening van een lage barak met pannen dak. Aan de voorkant is de barak open. Onder het dak werken enkele mensen. Midden onder het dak staat een dikke man te kijken naar de mensen die buiten voor de barak werken. Links voor de barak een man met koksmuts bij een rokende keukenwagen. Rechts voor de barak een zittende man die iets in een teil giet. Links van de teil een staande man met een pollepel. Beide mannen zijn op de rug gezien afgebeeld. Rechts op de voorgrond een wok op een kookplaats en een gamel. Geheel boven in potlood de tekst: "De keuken". Op bladzijde 39 van het boek: "Achter de Kawat" is de tekening afgedrukt met de volgende tekst: "Gezicht op de keuken en de dikke chef-kok. Was die in werkelijkheid niet nog wat dikker?".
