- Description
- Boulevard de Clichy was one of the main streets in Montmartre, the Parisian artists’ quarter. Van Gogh painted an intersection that he often crossed. The corner of Rue Lepic, where he lived with his brother Theo, is just visible on the right. Such Paris street scenes were popular with impressionist painters. The style of this work, with its freely-juxtaposed touches of bright colour, is another clear reflection of the influence of Impressionism.
