Liber amicorum
Liber Amicorum Dr. P.C. Boutens, den grooten Dichter, Classicus, Voorzitter, en Vriend, door zijn Vereerders aangeboden. 20 Februari. 1870-1940 (Festschrift for Dr P.C. Boutens, the great poet, classical scholar, chairman and friend, presented to him by his admirers. 20 February, 1870-1940).
The collection’s pièce de resistance is the Liber Amicorum (Festschrift).
Forty-six vellum pages bear handwritten contributions by colleagues, among whom Willem Kloos, Lodewijk van Deyssel, J.C. Bloem and Adriaan Roland Holst. It also features exquisite works from artists such as Willem van Konijnenburg, Christiaan de Moor and Lucie van Dam van Isselt. In addition, various friends and acquaintances added their signatures, including Boutens’ manservant, Cornelis van Duyvenbode.
The title page of the Liber Amicorum is written in gold, red and blue calligraphy with the crest of Zeeland and the text F. Lensveld fecit at the bottom. It is bound in leather of a soft orange color, decorated in gold and the inside of the back cover is signed in gold by Elisabeth Menalda, Amsterdam 1941; it lies in a grey box lined with cloth. 17 x 21.5cm.
