Dervish
The Russian-Armenian photograph Antoine Sevruguin made hundreds of photographs of different communities in present-day Iran, then Persia, both in his studio and outdoors. His favorites were dervishes, pious monks who had chosen to lead an extremely simple nomad life. With their long hair and sober attire, they look as if they had just stepped out of a Rembrandt painting of a biblical scene.
