Droste – Culinary Antics with Droste Cocoa.

Poster artist Frans Mettes (1909 -1984) probably made as many as 1000 posters from 1926 until his death, including numerous film posters. He illustrated books and calendars and drew comics. He also made book covers for the well-known Bob Evers series. After the Second World War Droste was one of his regular clients.

Mettes signed practically all his posters. Nevertheless, his signature on this poster, dated approximately 1955, can only be easily recognized by experts: bottom left in the rounding cup rim filled with chocolate milk. Advertising agency Palm, who had won the assignment, did not want Mettes’ signature to be too conspicuous.
